The Gisakura rope course is a thrilling experience with a suspended challenge course that will put your bravery, flexibility, and balance to the test. Below is a description of the rope course activity at Gisakura:
- Length and Height: The aerial path is hung between two and fifteen meters (6.5 and 49 feet) above the forest floor, with a total length of 280 meters offering a good aerial view as you explore the different canopy that Nyungwe National park offers you
- Structure: It is carefully structured up with 21 different tasks or divisions. While navigating the route, you will encounter a range of obstacles such as: Bridges with swinging logs, unstable cables and tightropes that call for precise balance and footwork, climbing through nets that swing and a set of stairs and little platforms hanging from the trees which test your balance and bravery.
- The Experience: The design of the course is inspired by the movement of local primates and animals found in Nyungwe National park, such as white colobus monkeys, civets, and forest cats. It is a physically engaging journey that allows you to mimic how these species move through the treetops, offering an immersive learning experience about the forest’s ecology. From this elevated vantage point, you have unparalleled opportunities to observe the park’s vibrant wildlife and dense rainforest canopy.
Safety Guidelines.
Gisakura rope courses prioritize safety above everything else, making the experience safe and accessible for participants.
Safety System: A unique full-body harness system which is commonly known locally as “Igisarubeti,” is provided to participants. You won’t fall even if you slip or lose your footing since this harness is constantly fastened to an overhead safety wire that keeps you connected to the line for the duration of the 280-meter route.
- Guidance: Every group is accompanied by qualified, experienced guides. They give thorough safety advice, show how to navigate each area correctly, and provide perceptive descriptions of the surroundings.
- Location and Time: The rope course is situated in Nyungwe National park Rwanda adjacent to the Gisakura Park Reception. It is generally open daily with the activity starting at at 8:00 am, 10:00 am and 2:00 pm
- Requirements for participants.
- Age: The minimum age requirement to participate in Gisakura rope course is 5 years since at this age you are believed to listen and follow instructions.
- Weight: Participants must weigh no more than 100 kg (220 lbs) for easy balancing of metallic rope and at least 20 kg (44 lbs).
- Clothes: You need to put on comfortable clothes and closed shoes as they provide easy when participating in the activity.
- Caution: People who have a severe fear of heights or cardiac issues should not participate in this sport.
