Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National park and visit to Ellen DeGeneres campus.

Our welcoming driver guide will meet you at Kigali International Airport who will deliver you a briefing, and walk you through your itinerary. After that, you’ll be driven to Volcanoes National Park and check into the lodge. After lunch, you will visit the Diane Fossey Fund’s Ellen DeGeneres Campus for an optional virtual tour that will get you ready for the gorilla trekking excursion. The Ellen DeGeneres campus at Diane Fossey is 20 minutes away by car from the hiking spot. After that, head back to the lodge for dinner and the night.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and visit to Iby’icawu cultural village.

After an early breakfast, head to the Volcanoes Park headquarters in Kinigi. By 7:30 am, you will receive a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. At 8:00 am, you will embark on an hour-long gorilla trek led by a park ranger, during which you will witness the mountain gorilla family you are trekking—which shares 98% DNA with humans—feeding, interacting, and protecting their families. You can take pictures. During the mountain gorilla trek, bush pigs, and bird species may be encountered.

From the trek, you will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation before visiting the Iby’icawu cultural village for an immersion in culture. There, you will see dancers performing for you, discover about their way of life, and purchase souvenirs to take home. You will return to the lodge for dinner and a restful night following this excursion.

 Day 3: Golden monkey trekking and transfer to Nyungwe National Park.

Get up early in order to have a early morning breakfast, check out, and head to the Volcanoes Park headquarters in Kinigi. You will receive a briefing on golden monkey trekking rules and regulations around 7:30. You will be split up into 16-person groups and given the option to hike a troop of golden monkeys. A park ranger will lead the golden monkey trekking excursion, which will start at 8:00 am. In comparison to mountain gorilla treks, golden monkey treks are shorter, requiring two to four hours of walking.  As the golden monkeys converse with each other using various vocal ranges and calls, you may recognize them by their chattering. When you encounter the Golden Monkey Troop, which is a group of primates that you are trekking, it will take you an hour to witness their daily activities. As they hop from one limb to the next or jump from one tree to another, you will see them eating. You can snap pictures of them, but stay away from flashlight-equipped cameras. You may encounter duikers, bush pigs, and several bird species while on the Golden Monkey Trek.

Following the golden monkey hike, you will return to the Kinigi Park headquarters to meet our knowledgeable driver guide. He will pick you up, transport you to lunch, and drive you to Nyungwe National Park, where you will check in for supper and spend the night.

Primate Safaris Rwanda

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk.

Following breakfast around 5:00 or 5:30 in the morning, you will go chimpanzee trekking. Our professional driver guide will take you to the Uwinka Visitors Center so you can understand the rules and guidelines of chimpanzee trekking. After you begin the chimpanzee trekking adventure, you will spend an hour with the chimpanzees when you come across them, you will observe them as they awaken from their nests and proceed for their normal routines. These little primates share 98% of our DNA, making them the closest relatives to humans. You may identify them by their panting voices.

Upon this adventure, you will return to the lodge for lunch before starting the afternoon’s canopy walk. The canopy walk is a thirty-minute guided tour that starts at the Uwinka Visitors Center in Nyungwe Forest and follows the Igishigishi Trail. On a clear day, Lake Kivu is viewable from the canopy, making the hike worthwhile despite the considerable elevation at the beginning. After the activities, return to the lodge for dinner and spend the night there.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali

Day 6: Kigali city tour and transfer back to Kigali International airport

You will have breakfast in the morning and then explore the firehouse, which is where President Habyarimana’s jet crashed, setting off the infamous Rwandan genocide in 1994. After that, you will learn more about Rwandan culture and visit the Kimironko market and the Kigali Genocide memorial. you shall have lunch in Kigali, then be driven to Kigali International Airport by our knowledgeable driver guide to catch your flights.
